FORT MCCOY, Wis. — At 5:45 a.m. today, 16 Wisconsin Army National Guard Soldiers began the three-day gauntlet that is the Best Warrior Competition with push-ups, sit-ups and a two-mile run — the first three events in a demanding test of their physical fitness and endurance, marksmanship, land navigation, Soldier skills, military bearing and composure.
These Soldiers — representing the 32nd Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 64th Troop Command, 157th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade and the 426th Regional Training Institute — are competing for the prestige of being the Wisconsin Army National Guard’s Best Warrior and Best Noncommissioned Officer. Winners will advance to compete against National Guard Soldiers from six other states at next month’s regional event at Camp Dodge, Iowa.
The competition at Fort McCoy is not open to the public, but check out live updates on the Wisconsin National Guard Facebook page, as well as photos from each day of the competition on the Wisconsin National Guard Flickr site. Video footage will also be posted on the Wisconsin National Guard YouTube channel.
