BAGHDAD - Hands frantically tearing at tape and cardboard; an ear-to-ear smile; the excitement of not knowing what is inside; the joy of knowing somebody cares enough to send something. It sounds like Christmas, but it's not. It's an eager soldier opening a care package.
A training noncommissioned officer with Company A, 2nd Battalion, 127th Infantry, received the Thomas E. Wortham IV Award for outstanding service to the Wisconsin National Guard and the community during a ceremony last month at Volk Field, Wisconsin.
Eleven thousand students across Wisconsin will be better prepared for an emergency, thanks to the STEP program.STEP, or Student Tools for Emergency Planning, is a turnkey classroom curriculum for teachers to prepare 5th graders for various emergencies and disasters, including tornadoes, flooding and storms. The program also shows students how to put together an emergency kit and develop an emergency plan.
